Kick Israel out from the United Nations

Writen by: Dr. Muzaffar Syah Mallow

The time has come for all nations to put aside their small differences and come together to initiate international effort to expel Israel from the United Nations (UN), the world most important international body due to their ongoing prosecutions and atrocities against the Palestinian people. Since the creation of Israeli more than 70 years ago in 1948 and occupation of the East Jerusalem, West Bank and Gaza Strip in 1967 after the Six Days War, international community has witnessed many human rights violations committed by the Israeli authorities and extremist individual towards the Palestinian people. Latest, whole world been exposed with the news over the barbaric act carried out by Israeli force and Israeli extremists towards the Palestinian people in East Jerusalem. All these happen while Muslim observing their fasting period in the holy month of Ramadan. Al – Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in Islam after the Holy Mosque in Mecca and the Holy Prophet Mosque in the city of Medina. The latest action carried out by the Israeli forces and extremists towards the Palestinian people and the attacked at the scared compound of the Al – Aqsa Mosque clearly showed their disrespectful and insult not only towards the Palestinian people but also to all Muslim over the world.

For more than half a century, Palestinian people have been living in a conflict and have to endure many violence’s and hostilities not only by the Israeli authorities but from the Israeli extremist groups and individuals as well. Based on many human rights reports, Palestinian people including women and children have also been subjected to harassment, humiliation and prosecution from the Israeli. All the inhuman actions taken by Israel towards the Palestinian people for the last many years should not be accepted by any countries which still cherish rule of law, peace and justice.

The UN as the world most prestige international organization which promotes peace and justice, UN should not allow nation like Israel to be in the group. Article 1 of the United Nations Charter 1945 clearly states that the purpose of UN are:

  1. To maintain international peace and security, and to that end: to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace, and for the suppression of acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace, and to bring about by peaceful means, and in conformity with the principles of justice and international law, adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations which might lead to a breach of the peace;
  2. To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace;
  3. To achieve international cooperation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character, and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion; and
  4. To be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations in the attainment of these common ends.

Every single objectives of UN mentioned above have not been respected and followed by Israel. On record, there have been nearly 50 UN resolutions condemning Israel for their acts of cruelty and brutality committed towards the Palestinian people, but all these resolutions are futile due to the continuous assistance and protection given by United States of America towards their so called “close allies”. The failure of Israel for the last many years to follow the peaceful spirit of the UN Charters should have resulted for their expulsion from the organization. Perhaps, Israel has forgotten that it owes the UN for its very existence way back in 1948 where on November 29, 1947, the UN General Assembly approved The UN Partition Plan for Palestine Resolution 181 by terminating the British Mandate of Palestine while creating two states, one Jewish and one Arab. If it hadn’t been for the UN, they would not have been able to establish a nation of their own which they could call as “promise land” or “home”.

UN charter is a basic treaty, and all UN members including Israel are bound by its articles. Failure for any country to follow such treaty can be subjected to severe punishment including expulsion from the UN itself. There is also a clause for expelling a member state in the UN charter. Article 6 of the UN Charter 1945 clearly states A Member of the United Nations which has persistently violated the Principles contained in the present Charter may be expelled from the Organization by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Security Council”.

This expulsion suggestion might seem difficult to be implement based on the strong and continuous support as well as protection it received from their proxy, United States of America which happen to be one of the member of the UN Security Council. However, by initiating this small step, it will at least able to bring strong signal to Israel that all their barbaric and inhuman actions towards the Palestinian are totally intolerable by many nations and at the same time it would give Palestinian people a strong moral support to continue with their struggle in creating independence country of their own which the they can live in peace and with dignity.

The writer of this article is totally out of touch with reality. Israel is the only democracy in the region with Arab members in its government, and people of all faiths ccan practice their religion freely which is not the case in many other countries in the region. I challenge anyone to go there and see for themselves just how “oppressed” the Palestinians are and ask some of them if they would rather be living in Syria, Jordan, Gaza, Iran, Saudi Arabia, or a few other places I could name.
