Israel sentences 69-year-old Bedouin to 10 months in prison

NEGEV, PALESTINOW.COM — The prominent activist Sheikh Sayeh al-Turi, who lives in the unrecognized village of al-Araqib, started on Tuesday his 10-month prison sentence in al-Ramla prison.

Dozens of activists holding photos of Sheikh al-Turi marched from al-Araqib village to al-Ramla prison to show him support in front of Israeli oppression.

Al-Turi is likely the first Bedouin community to go to prison over his fight to have Israel recognize his ownership of land in the Negev.
